WOYWW......

Happy Wednesday to one and all....hope you like my new header picture.  It's a quick snap of one of the poppies that's sprung up in our back garden.....they could have been pulled out as weeds but my motto this year is leave anything other than recognised weeds in to see what grows and aren't I thrilled these have survived?

On my desk today is a little project I'm working on......

I went into our local fabric shop, Watson and Thornton's in Shrewsbury  [you know the one Sam and Jan ;-)]  looking for some stiff cotton fabric for a few projects I have in mind and as you would expect Brian, [the man who can put his hand on anything], found me some Permastiff Cotton......has anyone ever used it before?  If so what did you think?

I carefully made a paper pattern using some brown paper and pinned it onto the Permastiff. [I've only pinned it at the edges as the Permastiff does seem to mark with the pin holes ].
I cut out the fabric carefully so as to not cut into my newly made ironing board cover :-)

As you can see I'm using a push back method with my machines today....I've got no other room at the mo!!
I've clipped into the corners as you might be able to see.

I don't often pin but I've pinned the basic shape together to see if it fits....can you tell what it is yet?

Ta da.  It fits a treat and I think it will do the job nicely.  I am planning to use the Permastiff as a lining for my tissue box cover for my new sewing room.....I am planning to make a cover with pockets and attach a pin cushion to it to it will be useful and pretty.

As they say....watch this space for further developments.  :-)

Today there should be a skip on my drive and builders in the back garden digging out the footings for our extension so its mess and excitement all round for me.  Please leave me a little comment so I know you've called by and I will be over to yours to see what you're up to this week as soon as I can.
Hugs,
Annie x

Hope the skip turns up and the digging begins... look forward to WIP photos! the poppy in your header is gorgeous, thank goodness it survived - it's a good idea the first year to leave most things just in case. Helen 2

Well, I could really be a bad girl here and comment on the staying qualities of Permastiff!!!! But I shall be demure for once in my life and merely comment that I knew what you were making, having completed one myself.
Yay for exciting building news...they seem to be cracking on. Woohoo :-). You'll soon have loads of room!

dont forget to share the finished tissue box :) we would love to see it
my hubby doesnt pull what he calls pretty weeds either although this year we have also found some 'bird planted' flowers that we have in the back garden that have grown where we had a massive patch of bird deposits shall we say late last year i quite like the fact that its not planned
Happy WOYWW!

And would the finished tissue box be for someone with a perma-sniff?!? The things you and Twiglet get up to when you go off to Watson & Thornton together!! The poppy is beautiful. I heard a weed was only a plant that was growing somewhere unwanted, so as long as you want it there, this poppy is not a weed! Happy crafting x

Well, as you said to Twiglet, I can vouch for how much better it is when it's stiff.
I like the idea of the useful tissue box cover, clever idea! I hope the builders rock up,make lots of noise and houses results quickly! And don't forget, for some reason, footings always always make your plans look much smaller than they are!

Ohh building work, don't envy you but the end results should be worth all the upheaval. Hope it all goes well, Annie. I have to admit I haven't a clue what you were making looking at the photos but it's looking good.

A multi tasking tissue cover? I like it. Never heard of Permastiff and I shall leave that right there! I wouldn't have realised that flower was a poppy unless you had said so, it's beautiful.

Hi Annie, I would not have guessed Poppy either, it almost looks like a Peony. Very beautiful, one of my favourite flowers. Love the tissue box cover plan, very clever. Be back to see the finished result. Good luck with the building! Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #11 xxx

Gorgeous poppy and agree with Shaz .... I thought it was a peony. Simply stunning. Still getting over the comments about Brian and the permastiff. LOL.

You really are a stickler to do thing right and no doubt it will end up perfect like the professional you are. I'd have used a but of iron vylene or even sprayed fabric glue on a bit of heavy vylene. Personally methinks it was all a ploy to get to that gorgeous shop once again.
Dying to see the building results and the finished box cover too.

You're obviously more skilled with your machine than I am with mine. I just do wavy lines! Your poppy is beautiful. Barb#29 x

A beautiful Poppy. Ours here have never been that many layers and our wind usually destroys them the first day. Unique, simple pattern for the tissue box. Thanks for the visit Your little Viola in prev. post is so preceious. They last into Oct/Nov cold here, I've planted a lot this year with our cool spring and they will reseed. Love that.
We popped home to feed the farm animals and cats..got some laundry done, picked up our mail and will head back to enjoy Thurs. ON MAIN...music, food and lots of people to mingle with. Going to be HOT later. Have a fun week.

Lurve that poppy. I never have much luck with poppies, despite the fact that I love them. Guess they don't like my soil!
Who's a clever tart then?!!
